I wanted to let you know about a research study being conducted at The University of Manchester, funded by the National Institute of Health and Care Research Manchester Biomedical Research Centre. This project has been approved by an NHS Research Ethics Committee [24/WA/0076].
We would like to find out more about hearing tests for people with dementia. Studies show that hearing loss is common in people with dementia, and that lots of people with dementia have undiagnosed or untreated hearing loss. This can worsen dementia symptoms like confusion, depression and social withdrawal. However, not much is known about what people with dementia, and their carers, think about hearing tests for people with dementia. Our research aims to find out about the barriers and facilitators to hearing tests for people with dementia i.e., what is difficult and what works well?
We will use the results to recommend changes for hearing tests and audiology services for people with dementia.
The study involves talking to a researcher about your experiences using either a telephone call or video conferencing (on Zoom). The discussion will last around one hour.
Those who take part will be reimbursed with a shopping voucher for their time and contribution.
