INVITE TO JOIN DEMENTIA UNITED PROJECTS

Dementia United, as the Greater Manchester programme for dementia, have recently started four dementia projects and would like to invite you to join these groups:

Improving the quality and experience of being diagnosed with dementia

Being given a diagnosis of dementia is a life-changing event for anyone and we want to improve this experience for people in Greater Manchester.  To start this work, we are mapping memory assessment pathways across the ten localities.

Supporting person centred responses to distressed behaviours for people living with dementia

This work is currently focusing on sharing good practice between localities to reduce duplication of work and to build innovation in this area (also referred to as behaviours that challenge us or complex needs).  We believe that increased knowledge and skills for all those affected by dementia will reduce distress and improve quality of life for people.

Supporting the provision of good end of life care for people affected by dementia

Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease continues to be the highest cause of death in England and Wales.  We believe that people living with dementia should receive the right support to die with dignity in a place of their choosing. This work is focusing on supporting people living with dementia and their carers to access care when they need it, with the expectation that this will lead to reduced distress and avoid unnecessary hospital admissions at the end of a person’s life.

Dementia training

Working with the Alzheimer’s Society, we have started work to map the current dementia training offer across Greater Manchester as the first step in improving access to education and training for all those affected by dementia.  We believe it is vital that everyone across our communities can access the right level of education and training, to make Greater Manchester the best place to live for those affected by dementia

Please contact Karen Thakuria (Project Manager – Dementia United) if you would like more information or links to join any of these project groups k.thakuria1@nhs.net.

We recently launched our two-year Dementia and Brain Health Delivery Plan for 2023 to 2025 and our project managers are working on a range of projects as part of this programme.  If you would like to find out more about Dementia United, please visit our website www.dementia-united.org.uk.
