{"id":2784,"date":"2026-08-25T10:53:18","date_gmt":"2026-08-25T09:53:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hub.gmintegratedcare.org.uk\/asc\/?p=2784"},"modified":"2026-08-25T10:55:41","modified_gmt":"2026-08-25T09:55:41","slug":"the-big-conversation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hub.gmintegratedcare.org.uk\/asc\/the-big-conversation\/","title":{"rendered":"THE BIG CONVERSATION"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Baroness Louise Casey of Blackstock, Chair of the Independent Commission on Adult Social Care, introduces The Big Conversation on Care.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5100\" data-end=\"5148\">I think most of us want exactly the same things.\u00a0To be able to live well and to get old well.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5202\" data-end=\"5356\">The truth is, most of us don\u2019t think much about adult social care until the day that we need it, either for ourselves, or for our families and loved ones.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5361\" data-end=\"5517\">For an older person, that might be when they start to become frail, when they start to need help around the home, or indeed, have just had their first fall.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5522\" data-end=\"5646\">For a disabled person, it might mean getting the support they need so they can carry on working, living, and indeed, loving.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5651\" data-end=\"5766\">Whatever our needs, after a lifetime of paying taxes, we expect there will be somewhere for us to turn to get help.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5771\" data-end=\"5825\">Just like that when we\u2019re ill, we all turn to the NHS.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5830\" data-end=\"5876\">But sadly, too often this just isn\u2019t the case.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5881\" data-end=\"5989\">Over the last year, I\u2019ve heard from people who\u2019ve told me that they think the system we have is just broken.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5994\" data-end=\"6178\">They feel left alone, trying to work out what help is available, where to go, how are they going to pay for it, at the very moment that they and their families have often hit a crisis.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"6183\" data-end=\"6354\">Somebody diagnosed with dementia might be left with little more than a leaflet, trying to work out what support they need, where to find it, and frankly, what can be done.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"6359\" data-end=\"6424\">Imagine if we treated somebody diagnosed with cancer in that way.\u00a0The time is right to fix this problem together.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"6481\" data-end=\"6640\">It\u2019s not beyond this country to take the big problems and to solve them.
