Trainee Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (IAPT)

Trainee Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner

As part of a national Increasing Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) programme we’re recruiting into a number of salaried trainee positions to work in NHS IAPT Provider organisations. Psychological therapies are talking therapies that can be used with people with anxiety disorders and depression.

We’re recruiting 33 IAPT trainee psychological wellbeing practitioners and 33 IAPT Trainee Cognitive Behavioural Therapists

Services are committed to supporting recovery for people with anxiety and depression-related problems, including people with long term physical health conditions such as diabetes and respiratory problems.

What are you looking for?

We’re looking for people with a commitment to scientific practice with a willingness to learn new skills and a desire to improve the health and wellbeing of people with common mental disorders.

What are the roles?

Both roles are salaried 1-year trainee positions with the possibility of future employment in one of our IAPT services upon successful completion of the training

IAPT trainee psychological wellbeing practitioners

  • If you’re successful you will be employed by an NHS IAPT organisation in Greater Manchester and will be given the opportunity to tell us which employer and locality you would like to work in. We can’t guarantee the first choice of employer but will endeavour to place you in a team that’s mutually acceptable.
  • You will be expected to enrol with the allocated university at which they will spend the ‘taught’ part of the week during the initial training. There will also be full support from experienced PWPs and senior PWPs, as well as the various professional networks you will be linked into. Successful completion of the training programme will result in a post-graduate certificate (level 7) or a graduate certificate (level 6) PWP IAPT Practitioner and will enable you to work as a PWP within an IAPT service with your own caseload.
  • You will benefit from working for an organisation that is part of the Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership, and as such, is able to drive innovation and work collaboratively to improve practice and deliver high quality care. As a partnership, we are proud of our collective ambition to improve the health and wellbeing of the population of Greater Manchester and we support each other via network meetings and other events which you may be able to be involved in.

IAPT Trainee Cognitive Behavioural Therapists

There will also be full support from experienced Cognitive Behavioural Therapy practitioners, as well as the various professional networks you will be linked into. Successful completion of the training programme will result in a post-graduate IAPT qualification (level 7) and will enable you to work as a HIT within an IAPT service with your own caseload.
  • You will benefit from working for an organisation that is part of the Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership, and as such, is able to drive innovation and work collaboratively to improve practice and deliver high quality care. How do I apply?

The application process went live on 29 May 2020, to be hosted by Health Education England (an NHS organisation) on TRAC recruitment, but your information will be shared with the employing organisations and the relevant universities involved in the recruitment process. Details of the employing organisations and the universities/ training providers will be included in the application form.  As such, you will be required to sign the separate information-sharing agreement within the application form.

How will the interview process work?

Greater Manchester NHS IAPT providers have adopted a centralised and standardised recruitment process, please note you will be interviewed by a panel drawn from service practitioners, managers and university representatives across GM. Interviews for this post will be held from 13th to 24 July 2020 via Microsoft Teams video link

The course start date at the universities is TBC but will likely start later September/early October 2020.
