GMCVO, funded by\u00a0Greater Manchester Integrated Care Partnership<\/a>, finalised awards for year 3 of the Greater Manchester mental wellbeing grants programme. The programme aims to support people from communities of identity or experience, based in Greater Manchester, that may struggle to achieve higher levels of mental wellbeing.<\/p>\n

Who are they?<\/strong><\/p>\n

St Andrew\u2019s is a Church which seeks to meet the needs of their local community through both religious and non-religious activities. The Church itself is an impressive Grade II listed building in the heart of Eccles.<\/p>\n

What do they do?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Aside from their regular religious services, St Andrew\u2019s provide a wide-range of weekly activities. This includes a parents and carers toddler group, a community caf\u00e9 and a dementia-friendly \u2018Sporting Memories\u2019 group. The Church also acts as a distribution centre for Salford Foodbank.<\/p>\n

What’s their project?<\/strong><\/p>\n

St Andrew\u2019s received \u00a3720 from a Greater Manchester mental wellbeing faith micro grant to hire a facilitator to deliver 12 weekly art and craft workshops. The two-hour sessions cover a different art or craft activity each week and provide a space for participants, primarily socially isolated older people and people living with long term health conditions, to learn something new whilst connecting with new and existing friends.<\/p>\n

If this group didn\u2019t exist we\u2019d all be sat alone at home miserable. (Participant)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

What impact has the project had?<\/strong><\/p>\n

This funding has allowed St Andrew\u2019s to continue delivering these much-needed workshops at what is an uncertain time for everyone. Participants enjoy attending the sessions for both the activity and the opportunity to have a chat over a brew with\u00a0supportive, like-minded people.<\/p>\n
