Empowered Together research study

NIHR are hoping shortly to confirm an exciting opportunity for a number of social workers, nurses, or professionals with similar experience to join the Empowered Together research study.

The study is exploring how we can better identify, assess, and coordinate support for a broad range of social care needs among people in prison. These roles would offer a unique opportunity to work directly within a prison setting, contribute to an important area of research, and help shape approaches to social care in prisons.

The roles are expected to start around August 2027, run for approximately two years, and be based across several prisons in the North West. You would most likely be based primarily in one prison, working there around four days per week.

As prison vetting can take some time, we are inviting early expressions of interest now. At this stage there is no commitment—NIHR would simply be very pleased to hear from anyone who might be interested in finding out more.
